November 16, 2008 - Sweet... Saturday's pictures at Trezan's are devoted entirely to Christina, who told us she made her shirt look good (but wouldn't take it off to prove that it sucks without her in it). She also told us she made the band look good, which I would fairly well agree with. Thanks to those who braved the shitty weather to come see us. Also to Treza who took a bath, but promises to have us back.
November 15, 2008 - A big thanks goes out to the Weston Moose and its members for making us welcome last night. We had a great time and hope to see you all soon.
November 9, 2008 - Wow, one hellacious Saturday night at Pete's place, probably the best I can remember, all the tables full and three deep at the bar. Here are 25 more pictures.
November 8, 2008 - No pictures from the Bowling banquet or the Wild Horse Halloween party last week. I got the new camera and was trying to figure out how to take pictures without a flash at Pete's last night. The results were at first disappointing and then I realized the way the pictures look is probably about the way a lot of people felt. So in the interest of art and recalling painful, woozie hangovers, I put 25 of them up anyway. The colors are pretty, if nothing else... and some are destined to become classics.
November 1, 2008 - Yes it's November... Hey people, my camera broke (yeah, I hear some people saying "good!") so there are no pictures from the Wild Horse Halloween party and only a few from the Bear Skin's party last week. Sooo... if anyone wants to email me pictures, I'll see what I can do to put them up. The address is on the contact page. Thanks!
October 30, 2008 - Sorry so late, but we had a great time at the Bear Skin with everyone for Halloween. I just went to mojodoctor.com and found the visitor counter sitting at 9999, refreshed the browser and watched it flip over to 10,000. Cool!
October 24, 2008 - Oh well, what the hell, if Glenville doesn't want us to play there, maybe French Creek will rock the night away with us... Dollars aren't as important as happy, "gettin' into it" fans enjoying our music... go for it, Bear Skin!!!
October 23, 2008 - Another last minute cancelation!!! Friday was supposed to be at Trezan's in Glenville but instead will be a night home watching the tyoob. NOT! See y'all at the Bear Skin on Saturday, where a good time will be had, fer sure!!
October 19, 2008 - Well, that was a first, both Friday and Saturday were packed at Pete's Place in Sutton. Terry came out both nights (thanks for helping unload and load!) Friday was the Clay County Crew's night to howl. Adam got up to sing a couple songs and cheerlead the Braxton County yell. Saturday was a bunch of new people we never saw before, plus Jim Bob as well as many of the usual people. Thanks for letting us rock you into the night. We appreciate you all. Many pictures too!
October 9, 2008 - Picked up a gig at the Weston Moose for their membership drive on November 14th. Bring your date, join the Moose and have a good time dancing to Mojo Doctor. The Moose is on the south end of Main Street in downtown Weston. MAP
October 7, 2008 - The Goal Rush gig next Friday 10 has been canceled. Instead Mojo Doctor will play from 9 to 1 at Smiley's Lounge at 6210 Maccorkle Ave in St. Albans. McCorkle Avenue just west of exit 56 of I-64. MAP
October 5, 2008 - Many congratulations to Kyle and Lindsey on their wedding. Thanks to the many kind people we met, including Mr. and Mrs. Jim Blankenship for hosting the party at their home and inviting us to play. We are glad you all enjoyed our show. Likewise we enjoyed your company and hope to see you again soon. Jim runs I-77 Ford Mercury in Ripley, so if you need a new set of wheels, go see Jim.
Also, we just booked a job at a new place, Outer Limits on the Meadowbrook Road 3 miles from the Meadowbrook Mall just outside Clarksburg. December 6th, see y'all there!
October 4, 2008 - No pictures for the Crystal last night, our staff photographer was in Georgia visiting family. Pretty much a typical night at the Crystal, no problems and a good time was had by all. "Hey" to all the normal people. Hope everyone got home OK.
September 27, 2008 - Well, September is just about run out. We had a ball at the Saloon Saturday. There's just something about those bar stools they have there, though!
September 22, 2008 - Fall is officially here. Hope your summer has been good and you have your firewood in for winter. I was just looking at the calendar and it looks like Mojo Doctor is heading into a long run of double nighters. After this weekend we only have one Friday and no Saturdays off until December. Whew!
Incidentally, I found this cool picture of our fearless leader from the summer of 2005. Huzzah!!!
September 21, 2008 - Two big nights at Pete's Place in Sutton. Second weekend out with the new electronic drum set-up. Much more powerful drums without the noise and feedback of the acoustic set.
All kinds of cool people came out to see us. Roger's cousin Richard and Sue came the whole way from Clarksburg on Friday. The Clay county crew as well as our friends Donnie and Angie Tiziani came out on Saturday. Donnie used to play in the band Triple Threat from Buckhannon. He got up and played Tube Snake Boogie with us at the end of the night and we had a blast. Gary Ellyson, of WV Tree Service, offered encouragement and requested we learn Simply Irresistible, which I think is a good idea.
Billy Boggs tended bar Friday and then came back up to see us on Saturday after a gig of his own at the Clay County Fair. Billy plays guitar and fiddle in Southern Mix. Many other's came and went whose names I cannot recall but who we appreciate just the same for coming out. Tickets were pulled and prizes given away by Pa-Paw. The crowd ebbed and swelled on the dance floor and then it came time to call it a night, pack it up and go home.
And of course... pictures!
September 14, 2008 - Roger dumped his big old acoustic drum set and started using his electric kit. I also pressed into service a new smaller mixer that actually does more than the old big board. We spent all day Friday working on the new set up. This arrangement allows the drums to be more present and clearer out front without being too loud. All in all it worked well, and brought the stage volume down tremendously. Those at the Bear Skin on Saturday got to hear our new sound and, although we still have to iron out some minor issues, it really cleaned up the sound out front. It also allowed Roger to tear down and be on the road in fifteen minutes. You can see our updated list of sound and musical equipment here. Don't forget to check out Pete in the Flintstones hat. Yaba-daba-doo!
September 7, 2008 - Happy anniversary to Becky and Russ, thanks for coming out, hope you had a good anniversary day. Also happy birthday to John, you old codger! John tried out his new guitar synthesizer pedal Saturday night. He can now overlay horns, strings, flute and just about anything else over our music. Cool!
Terry Frazee got up and sang a couple with us. She sang Patsy Cline's "Your Cheating Heart" and she and Pete sang a duet on Kid Rock and Cheryl Crowe's "Picture." In 2003, Roger and I played for Terry in a Patsy Cline tribute at RCB High School. You can see pictures of that show here.
September 3, 2008 - The Goal Rush gig Friday the 5th is canceled.
August 31, 2008 - Hoo-wee, what a night at the Wild Horse Saloon. Not the biggest crowd we've had, but quite enthusiastic. We tried many new songs that we've been working on over the last few weeks. Some worked, some didn't. We have several more that we will pop open next week. Two weeks in a row at the WHS, so look for us next Saturday, too.
By the way, some have asked... why did I change "news" to "blog". Well, I'm keeping up with the times, and many of our younger myspace-type fans don't care for the news but definitely like to read blogs.
August 24, 2008 - Sorry it took me a while to get to this but I've been recuperating after getting sick Saturday. Some kind of summer flu or stomach virus. Pete had it at practice Friday and I got it while playing Saturday. It was awful. Anyway hope you all didn't get it. Thanks once again to the enthusiastic people at the Bear Skin. Roger was worried at the beginning of the night that no one was there, but everyone piled in about 10 and a good time was had by all. Just wish I could have felt better...
August 17, 2008 - Full moon affects people funny! Also, hi to Terri and welcome back to West Virginia.
August 13, 2008 - Got a call from some people looking for a band. They wanted us to send them a CD. I'd like to talk a minute about demo CDs. I don't like using a CD to see how good a band sounds anymore than I like using a photograph to see how good a woman kisses. Any band of kids with common computer software can make an awesome sounding CD for a demo and then fall flat on their faces when they actually get the gig and try to play it. So come on out and see us live doing what we do... all those bodies dancing and partying are a better measure of what Mojo Doctor can do at a gig than any CD we could make.
August 12, 2008 - I added a link at the bottom of our songs page so you can let us know what you'd like to hear. We'll try to learn what you want, but Pete says to please be reasonable, no Christine Aguilera. I also added some new links on the links page, to show pictures of the previous line-ups in the history of Mojo Doctor from its beginning to the present.
August 10, 2008 - After the Wild Horse Saloon gig... happy 21st birthday to Chris, glad to see you're healing up from wrecking your bike, man that lip looks sore. And welcome to Pat and Walter for coming out to see us. Congratulations to John and Melinda on your wedding planned for the end of August. Uh ohh... slam... clank... ;)
Hello to Larry and Trecia... can't wait to go back to the Bear Skin on the 30th. And a tip of the hat to Adam for coming out to see us and getting up to sing one! Adam was Mojo Doctor's lead singer in 2007, he is currently putting together a show with some new guys from Charleston.
'Hey' to Jody. We are very sorry about the mix-up over passing the hat and your having to give it back. When we got done with the last song and said good-night, the crowd acted pretty subdued and there was no screaming 'one more', so we started ripping things down. I guess in the meantime Pete said go ahead and pass the hat, but by then it was too late. Our voices were shot, anyway, after playing so hard for 4 hours. It takes a lot of energy for us old farts to play at that intensity. I think Roger said it right, we play hard and we ain't as young as we used to be. OK, call us weiners. We apologize to the late arriving partiers, but where do y'all hang out before midnight? This is where the party's at, we been hard rockin' since 9pm. Gotta start early if you're gonna stick it out, I always say. Oh, well, we'll try to do better...
Don't forget to check out the pictures!
August 3, 2008 - Friday night we played at the Ordinary in Clarksburg while a hee-mongous thunderstorm danced across the sky outside. Thanks to the folks from Bear Skin for coming out and also Mark - guitarist extraordinaire, always good to see you, too bad it can only be once a year... haha! Saturday was with our good friends at the Crystal. Bill and Paula were celebrating their 12th anniversary and came out to party with us. Bill and I go way back, we played in Hard to Handle around 1994, and then Phoenix. Bill went on to play in the band Triple Threat, which is now disbanded. Rocky Gallo, who plays in Silverado, got a night off and came out to see us. And of course, the obligatory pictures!
July 26, 2008 - Two nights at Pete's, Friday was the kick ass dancing crowd, Saturday was the sit back and listen crowd. A tip of the hat to the Clay county crew who came up on Friday, and the Walkersville crowd that braved the deer and cops to come down and party with us on Saturday. Also, thanks to Adam for coming out and also getting up to sing Honkytonk Women with us. It was a blast. More cowbell!!!
July 19, 2008 - Thanks for the good comments about the band, special requests and especially to the hat-passers and Jodie for kicking in for a whole extra fifth set. Hi and thanks to Jimmy and his wife, and many others, for coming out for your first time to see us. Y'all come back! And as usual... pictures. Oh, by the way, Donna is feeling much better and will be sitting up soon, we hope!
July 7, 2008 - A night at the Bear Skin and a night at the Crystal, lotsa new pictures, enjoy!
June 27, 2008 - A big "Hell Yeah" to the people at the Wild Horse Saloon in Walkersville, and happy birthday to Jody. Congratulations on the grand opening. Also "Hello" to Larry from the Bear Skin who came down to party with us. Thanks, all!
June 8, 2008 - Hoo-haw, another enjoyable night at the Bear Skin Inn... wish we could take you people everywhere we play. Thanks for the good time. Don't miss your pictures!
May 31, 2008 - The gigs at the Goal Rush on May 31st and July 5th have been canceled.
May 18, 2008 - Two nights at Pete's Place... here are some pictures!
April 27, 2008 - Now that's the damn way it's supposed to be. A hearty "hoo-haw" and mighty "hell yeah!" to the friendly people at the Bear Skin Inn... 'nuf said!
April 21, 2008 - Picked up a new date this Friday at the Matrix in Anmoore. We start at 10 PM.
April 13, 2008 - What a difference an enthusiastic crowd makes. 'Night and day' from last week. Seriously folks, playing to a quiet, unexcitable crowd is like pushing a lawn roller up Bridgeport hill... it's HARD WORK!
Due to a scheduling error, Matrix got two bands for the price of one this Saturday. We had a lot of fun swapping off with Bootleg, a local band from right there in Stonewood. We thank Andy and his guys for being good sports and sharing the room (and the crowd) with us.
Hey, in any event, we appreciate the noisy, exuberant welcome you gave us last night and as promised... pictures! Keep watching here for our next date in Clarksburg.
April 6, 2008 - Thanks for the nice comments from well wishers at the Goal Rush, but it seems someone is putting downs in the booze again! Zzz Zzz.
March 30, 2008 - A nice crowd this weekend at Pete's welcomed us to our first live gigs after cramming so many new songs into our heads. It was quite an effort remembering everything and there were a few train wrecks, but we had fun and that's the most important thing. We appreciate all the people who came up and complimented us and have but two things to say, "Thanks!" and "You ain't heard nuthin' yet!"
March 20, 2008 - Tweaked the calendar pages back to their good old calendar layout.
March 16, 2008 - Added about six new songs and tweaked several other old ones. Everything is sounding really exciting! But that's just our opinion...
March 2, 2008 - We have been pouring on the steam for our first job at the end of March by practicing at least twice a week. We polished up about ten songs just in the last week and have many more on the list to learn. The music is getting really tight and the harmonies are way better than anything we've ever had before. We hope that you all are as excited about our new lineup as we are and can't wait to see you all again at Pete's on the 31st and then back at the Goal Rush on April 5th! Thanks for hanging in there with us!
February 24, 2008 - We booked some new dates... Pete's in Sutton on March 28th and 29th, Goal Rush in Worthington on April 5th and May 3rd and The Matrix in Anmoore on April 12th. All gigs are 10 to 2.
February 22, 2008 - We hope you'll welcome Pete Martin into Mojo Doctor. Pete, our newest member, has taken over the lead vocal position and brings acoustic guitar to the mix as well. Pete is from Clarksburg and sings a wide range of music... everything from Garth Brooks to Bob Seger and Rascal Flatts to Brian Adams. In the 90's he was lead singer for Evolution.
