August 29, 2010 - We got a night off since Donny's finger is all ripped up, so we were planning to go watch Neutral at the Briar Patch. Donny went to Trezan's in Glenville to see if he could book us some jobs there next year and found the sign said Neutral was playing there, too! Now what are the chances of that?
Except it wan't Neutral, it was Chad's new band Stone Cradle. So... we hung out at Trezan's and listened to Stone Cradle, had some drinks, took some pictures and grooved to some good music. Awesome energetic drummer. Good job on Eruption, Chad! Hey, to Belinda, I thought I recognized you from somewhere. And I wonder if the other half of Neutral played at the Briar Patch.
August 24, 2010 - Next Saturday at the Moose must unfortunately be canceled due to an hand injury Donny got at work. Wish him well, and quick healing!
August 22, 2010 - Lots happened since I last wrote, wish I'd taken notes... ahem. We played our first night at the Garage Bay, and even though there were not very many people there, everyone that was there had a good time. We loved the size and sound of the room. Just need to get some people in there. Evidently, nobody in Reedsville knows who we are yet.
Last weekend, Pete's Place was its normal quiet, glum self until the Clay girls showed up. (where you been hiding?) Unfortunately, I ran out of beads way too soon. (eternally sorry!!!)
Friday, the Briar Patch was kept lively by Remona's girls and Mandy. Did I mention Mandy? Hey to Cindy and the others from the Eagles who visited. And then Den and Jody came in. (my knees are feeling much better and I will be sitting up soon)
Saturday, the (air conditioned) Crystal Lounge took a little bit of work to get going, but once you caught up to us, we all had a ball.
Steve and Amy are in Tennessee and we miss them. Yo to Nikki and her baby. I'm sure much more has happened and many more people were involved, but it's Sunday and my head hurts. (thanks, Jack!)
August 1, 2010 - Well, that just about shoots July in the ass. Woo hee... what a party it was last night at the Buckhannon Eagles. Not much need to tell you about it because if you were there... well, you were there! If you weren't... sucks to be you. I also added ten more pictures from Friday at the Clarksburg Eagles.
Don't forget, next Saturday is our first night at the Garage Bay in Reedsville. If you can make it that far, y'all come up and party with us!
July 31, 2010 - mojo doctor would like to thank Brian and the management of the Clarksburg Eagles for booking us last night. We all had a great time and appreciated the warm welcome we received. We have booked some more dates throught he end of the year. Hi to all of our regulars and a special hello to Bones who we haven't seen for many years. We see you still have that knack for interpretive dance. And Malena, you definitely need to put a water bed in the back of your new hearse. haha
July 28, 2010 - We invite everyone out to party at the Clarksburg Eagles on Friday. It's our first time there. Members get in free, non-members pay a small cover. Y'all come out and show the Eagles that mojo-people know how to have a good time. I have always liked playing in the Eagles because it is a bigger room and we can open up the sound a little without blowing away the bar. We start at 9:30.
Saturday, we return to the Buckhannon Eagles 9 to 12, we hope to see all our Buckhannon friends there.
We booked a first-time gig at The Garage Bay in Reedsville on August 7th. That's in Preston County, so if any of you are up that way be sure to stop in. From Sabraton, take Route 7 to the Reedsville four-way, turn left and go about a mile, the Garage Bay is on the left. We play 10 to 2.
July 25, 2010 - Thanks to the Mrs. McAbee, Mrs. Gissy and all the other fine people from the Lewis County Democratic Women's Group for having us at their annual elimination dinner. Thanks to Terri for keeping everyone comfortable, Donna and Angie for taking pictures, Pat Boyle for officiating, the cooks for feeding us, the bartenders for fixing our thirst, the dancers for looking really good and Sherrif Gissy for making sure we all stayed in line! ;)
July 24, 2010 - Hoo-wee what hot humid weather we are having. Hey, got the pictures up from the Briar Patch finally... Hey to Julia and Nikki, Steve and Amy, happy birthday to Valenda, all y'all others, too. Donna slept it off and was good to go next morn... haha. See y'all at the Eagles and the Eagles next weekend. First time at the Clarksburg Eagles Friday, hope to see lots of people there.
July 9, 2010 - Hey everyone... I know you just been jonesin' to read all the super-cool things I write about (haha), but it has been to busy to do much here except pictures. Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know we are still alive and hope to see everyone at the Briar Patch next weekend. There are a lot of you we haven't seen in a while, so come on out and party with us. Bye!
June 22, 2010 - First day of summer.
June 16, 2010 - We have been getting phone and email requests from some new places to play. They want to book dates over the next few months ahead, but we are booked solid for the rest of 2010. Anyone who wants to book us in 2011 had better start early. If you wait to book us in January, there may not be any dates left until after July. I will be putting up the blank 2011 calendar soon.
Also I'm sure you have all missed my weekly musings, but with all the stuff that is going on this busy summer, I just haven't had the time. I'm lucky I can post the few pictures I get up.
In the news department, we have learned as a band, in the last two weeks, eight new songs. This is surprising as we in general have not had time to tie our shoelaces.
May 30, 2010 - I know I haven't been keeping this blog up to date, there are just so many things going on, like the garden, family and work. We still appreciate everyone that comes out to see us and hope the rest of you that we haven't seen in a while don't forget us. Lot's of dates this summer, at clubs and several private parties. Keep in touch!
May 15, 2010 - The blog is MIA? Oh, dear! We must hire a writer!
And Jerry, sorry I don't know how we got by and didn't get a single picture of you. Nonetheless, that was one cool tee shirt, it was. Good to see you again, man what a drag, no picture!!!
April 14, 2010 - Well, it's been too nice to sit inside editing pictures, but at long last here is Pete's Place last Saturday, complete with Donna's birthday. Thanks to our loyal friends for coming out and supporting us!
April 4, 2010 - Boo, Mountaineers... oh, well, can't win 'em all. Next Friday at Pete's has been canceled because Donny has to work out of state.
March 28, 2010 - Thanks as always to everyone who came out this weekend to support mojo doctor. Friday at the Crystal was birthdays for several people, and Saturday was a "final four" win celebration at the Briar Patch with more birthdays. Happy birthday to everyone and "Go, Mountaineers!"
Also, thanks for putting up with our technical difficulties. Over the weekend we were beset with several problems... Friday was the unveiling of about eight new songs that proved to be a big task at trying to remember all the chords and words. Then came the complete dump of the programs in my pedal boards (technology!) which brought unexpectedly the very difficult job of controlling the lights and sound effects by hand while I was playing.
On Saturday, we decided to take the big dive and switch over to our new stereo sound mixer which brought a whole 'nother slew of 'on the fly' tweaks which caused Roger a bunch of headaches trying to hear his drums in the headphone monitors. Nonetheless, once the bugs were worked out, the new board proved to sound very much better than the old one and as we get the kinks worked out, I believe you will all be very happy with the improved sound we will be capable of.
And, in the 'credit where credit is due' department, I would like to thank Donna and Angie for taking the majority of the pictures both nights. It really helps me to have them doing the photo shoot so I can concentrate on playing. Thanks, ladies!
March 21, 2010 - HughesNet brags in their ads 1MB per second download speeds. Well, maybe after a world wide pandemic and you are the only one still on line and you've clicked your heels three times, held a sprig of sassafras over your head and chanted "oon, yellimon" over and over. This is pitiful, it's Sunday night and must be everybody and their mothers on the satellite playing games, watching YouTube and downloading porno movies. I think my dial-up was faster. zzz zzz zzz!
Happy birthday to everybody that had birthdays at Pete's Saturday, 'specially to Billy Boggs, resident booze-master in charge of distribution and also guitarist for Southern Mix. The last seven pictures at the end of Saturday night are not blurry, they are exactly how some people were seeing.
March 15, 2010 - I'm sick as a dog again with the flu, that's why the pictures were not up yesterday. In brief... Friday was a blast at Patty's birthday part at the Briar Patch and Saturday was another blast at Michelle's Good Times. Can't wait to get back to MGT in April, you guys really know how to party. A big THANKS goes out to Alaska for helping us get booked there... More later when I feel better.
March 7, 2010 - March??? Where is the time going? Seems we were just under the grip of February's snow storms. We were very pleased with this weekend, two great nights in Clarksburg.
We were happy to see a good turnout at the Moose on Friday with much glee and merry making. Lately, we've seen some of you here and some of you there but many of you showed up all together Friday. I'm not even gonna strain my brain trying to remember all the names, because YOU know you were there. We appreciate ya! Happy birthday to Nancy and to Crystal.
Saturday was a repeat performance at the Crystal Lounge, great crowd, good vibes, a little slow at first but we started to get some crowd participation, with you yelling back at us when we got you going! Jack even had Crown on hand! Hey, Yvette, you took off early before we got started taking pictures. Glad you came up, but we didn't see you leave and then we wondered where you went.
We saw some new faces this weekend, glad you came out and hope to see you come back again. If you are new to mojo doctor, please sign our guestbook and let us know what you think, we'd like to hear from you.
February 26, 2010 - We won't be at PJ Kelly's Saturday night because there is no way we can get this trailer up out of our hollow. Most likely we would not even get it turned around and out of our driveway. We'd like to thank Claude at PJ Kelly's for working with us and letting us bow out. Sorry about the cancelation. There's a foot and a half out here and the weather report says 4 to 7 more inches are on the way. Like a drunk, unemployed step-nephew, we keep shoveling it out and it keeps coming back. Pray for Spring.
February 21, 2010 - Two nights of pix from this weekend. Thanks to everyone who came out to Pete's Friday or Saturday (or Friday AND Saturday)... just wish the most of y'all'd learn to whistle or yell or make some kinda sound. We be interactive!
Plus, I added 30 more pictures from the Briar Patch from last weekend.
February 16, 2010 - Anyone wanting to book us for private parties this summer should pick a date and do it soon. If you wait until the last minute we will probably not be available. Dates are filling in and we have been getting interest from some other clubs.
February 15, 2010 - Gawd, will this snow never stop? Getting to the Briar Patch Saturday night was an ordeal. It took 25 minutes to get truck and trailer out of our iced up driveway and muddy yard, then another 30 minutes of slip and slide over icy back roads like we were steering a toboggan. An 8 mile trip took almost an hour. Patty's propane ran out and she had to burn space heaters until the gas truck brought another load. The back lights kept the stage warm and the crowd kept the room warm, tho. I was amazed as many people showed up as did and wonder how half of them got home. Dawgs, learn to pace yourselves! Anyway, here are the pics, I know you've been waiting. Next weekend we are back at Pete's Place and aren't they calling for more snow?
February 9, 2010 - Friday's Headliner's gig has been canceled.
February 8, 2010 - We added a date on 3/13 at Michelle's Good Times in Summersville filling in a night that was canceled from another place near there.
Incidentally, we do not state one price when we book a job and then raise the price after playing the job. That would not be good business and we would not be playing for very long if we did that. Our prices for our initial and subsequent jobs were stated plainly and clearly to each owner when we booked our first job and then, on our second job, they completely forgot what we told them. If they didn't want to pay us what we asked for, they should have said so before we played our second job. I just want the truth to be known to anyone who heard otherwise. Maybe signed contracts are in the offing.
February 6, 2010 - Well, yesterday morning Jack almost canceled our Saturday night gig, but he and a lot of other people were glad he didn't. The weather had him scared that maybe nobody would show up. But despite bad roads and thanks to our regulars, some downtown people, the New Jersey people, the Ohio people and the wedding anniversary party people we had a respectable gig. Happy anniversary! And happy birthday, Steve.
NOTE TO JACK: TO SELL CROWN, YOU MUST BUY CROWN. haha
February 6, 2010 - Sweet! I heard a lot of other bands in Clarksburg canceled out last night, but we showed up and had a nice little crowd at the Moose club. Thanks to everyone for braving the weather to come out and support us! Even from Florida!
Tonight we will be playing at the Crystal and we'd be glad to see all our friends there. Be sure to check out Donny, our new guitar player! Lotsa new music and a big difference in our sound and show! As always, watch the roads and be safe.
January 31, 2010 - Nasty weather last night, slip and slide all over. The night got off to a slow start but once state road got the snow plowed, a few people braved the trip to Pete's Place in Sutton.
We all got there early and practiced some new songs (while the residents cheered us on) and then had dinner and watched Bourne Identity. (yeah, right... if you take a girl (whose car you have just destroyed while terrorizing the shit out her tearing through Paris while leading a dozen cops on bikes and causing numerous auto accidents and pedestrian casualities) into a public restroom and hack off her hair, she will suddenly become very turned on and make love to you... yup, gotta remember that!)
That evening, we tried our new songs: Alice in Chain's Check My Brain, Ozzy's Mama, I'm Coming Home, Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak and Cavo's Champagne and they all came off pretty well. Kudos to Pete, who did a good job with a lot of words! And Donny's Alice in Chains harmony was simply chilling! Of course Roger and I were terribly awesome as usual. haha
And much thanks to our camera helper for taking the pictures, had it not been for you we would not have any pictures at all. And that about shoots January in the ass. See you in February. Next weekend is our Clarksburg tour, and a short walk both nights for Pete.
January 30, 2010 - Hey, anybody who is heading south from Clarksburg and could help out Pete with a ride, give him a call at 326-2405. Pete is currently sans-transportation and has been hoofing it from Clarksburg to Sheets in Weston where he hooks up with Donny. All dat hoofin' is awful hard on de fat boy! (actually Pete is getting pretty trim getting all that exercise!)
Also, I don't usually promote non-related websites, but the pictures and commentary at hawtness.com have been consistently amusing. It's also curious to note that their webpage width is the same as ours!
January 27, 2010 - I had to block bars and other bands at MySpace. It's not because we don't like bars and other bands, it's just to eliminate scads of invitations and announcements that clog our inbox. It takes me about 3 minutes to load and delete each one of these and it gets to be a pain in the ass on my SLOW dialup. Sorry guys! Everyone else can still message us, but we'd rather everyone use our email address or phone numbers found at mojodoctor.com/contact.html.
January 24, 2010 - Well, a lot has happened since I last wrote... snow has melted... mud has arrived... and now it looks like the next snow storm is right on schedule for our next gig at Pete's Place this weekend. Again!
John filled in at Clarksburg Moose last Friday when Donny could not get off work. We'd like to thank John for helping us out. We really appreciate it!
Saturday, we plowed into the Pioneer Inn in Summersville and had a great time. It was our third gig with Donny. We are starting to get pretty comfortable playing together. He turned his synth guitar loose and made banjo, sax, piano and a bunch of other non-guitar sounds on his guitar. We played some of our new songs and they came off pretty well. The recording turned out great and we'll have some new sound files up soon at mojodoctor.com/music.html.
Thanks to Ray, Laura, Zane and all the Pioneers for having us. Debbie and Trish came up from Clay County to party with us but had to leave midway because Trish was not feeling well. Hope you feel better. Thanks to everyone who complimented our show, and especially to the guy that bought us the shots! We appreciate your enthusiasm.
If you haven't seen mojo doctor in a while, you need to check out version 5.0! Why not next Friday and Saturday at Pete's? See ya there!
January 17, 2010 -
|
I'd like to thank everyone for the warm reception. All of the mojo doctor fans have been great. I know I still have a lot of work to do but I think things are coming along nicely. I am having a blast.

January 15, 2010 - It sounds like tomorrow night will be standing room only at the Bear Skin (now called the Briar Patch under new ownership a la Patty!). Hope everyone got their table reserved, if not, bring a lawn chair or your comfy shoes or... or just keep dancing!
January 14, 2010 - Ted Zickafoose wins the 'paying attention in class award' and gets to bang the chalk out of the erasers after class! BTW tomorrow is the deadline to have your 2009 Q4 extortion payment mailed into the fed. Three months remain to get your 'voluntary gift form' finished.
January 13, 2010 - Hey sorry so long, been busy, doing all kinds of cool new things...
First, we had our dry run with Donny on guitar at PJ Kelly's last Friday, and we want to thank everyone who slipped and slid through the snow to come out and support us. Our first night was a little rough at spots as would be expected working in a new member, but I'm sure you could see the potential.
Second... practice this week was fun, trying out a bunch of new stuff. Pete was a bit out of it being that he had about 2 hours sleep and had troubles finding a ride. Nonetheless, much was accomplished, hopefully it will be remembered.
And that brings us to the big weekend coming up... The grand unveiling of mojo doctor version 5 at the Bear Skin on Saturday. We hope you all come out for the party. Not only will we be excited about our new guitarist, but we have been working out a lot of other cool things with some new equipment. That probably just means more pedals for me to dance on while I'm playing, but hope it works out! Hope to see you all there... we start at 9pm or thereabouts!
January 4, 2010 - Our apologies to everyone who wanted to come out to the Crystal this last weekend. This is just one "real" winter. Looks like solid snow and cold for at least the next week. NEED SUN!
We've had two rehearsals with Donny on guitar so far and I just have to say I am very excited. I've played with Donny in two other bands in the past. You've heard him if you ever saw the bands Hard to Handle, Phoenix or Triple Threat from Buckhannon.
We covered so much material in such a short time, he knows so many songs I've always wanted to do. We just kept coming up with all kinds of songs we want to try, many of which we were able to knock out and just need to polish up. We can't wait to play out, we are so excited! Hope you are, too!
January 2, 2010 - Jack just called and said it was snowing like a bitch and thinks it would be best to cancel the gig tonight at the Crystal Lounge, so y'all stay home, stay safe and stay warm. Sayanara!
January 2, 2010 - We are keeping our eye on the weather for tonight. Jack was concerned if it kept snowing tonight at the Crystal might be canceled. Don't wanna do that, it's John's farewell party. But rather stay home than slide off the road and die in a fiery car crash and then freeze to death. Right?
She may have a point:
|
One question... how do you die in a fiery car crash and then freeze to death??? If you die in a fiery car crash you wont have to worry about the freezing to death, right??? IDK... anyway hope you guys have a great nite tonight and be safe!!!!
---Jessica |
January 1, 2010 - (warning... rant follows) First, let me say Thank God we can finally dispense with "two-thousand-and-this" and "two-thousand-and-that." Our years have always been counted in hundreds! For example "the thirteen-hundreds," "the nineteen-hundreds," "ten-sixty-six," "eighteen-twelve," "nineteen-sixty-nine." Now, gratefully, we can go back to saying the year properly, like "TWENTY-TEN." Alright, news anchors? Next year will be "TWENTY-ELEVEN." Hoo haw!!! (end of rant)
That said... We would like to thank the Summersville Moose for asking us to play for their New Year's party. It was a blast! We would also like to thank everyone who supported us in various ways throughout past year. We appreciate every one of you!
Then... we hope everyone is not too partied out to come to the Crystal Lounge this Saturday the 3rd for John Victor's farewell party. It will be his last night playing with mojo doctor so y'all come out and make him feel the love!
December 21, 2009 - Since Pete's Place didn't have a band booked for next Saturday night and our stuff is still set up from our gig last weekend, Paw Paw decided to have us play. So, y'all come out to party Christmas with us on the 26th at Pete's Place on Airport Road in Sutton.
December 20, 2009 - Happy Winter Solstice... it's all longer and brighter days from here on out. Hope everybody got home safe over the weekend and your power is still on and your home fires are burning! Stay warm and safe! Hopefully we will be dug out by New Years at Summersville Moose.
December 19, 2009 - Well, isn't this a nice little "snow event?" The governor has issued a state of emergency warning to stay off the roads so I guess tonight Pete's is off.
The band got to go home early last night at Pete's. Not many people braved the weather, and most of those that did headed home early (but not the Clay County girls). Paw Paw said the roads were getting bad and it might be wise to git while the gittin' was good. He said Route 19 to Summersville was closed. Charisma got stuck in a ditch going home. Hopefully she got pulled out OK. We're lucky to live in West By God where most everyone drives four-wheel-drive trucks equipped with big honkin' tires, log chains, chain saws and a spare case of beer.
Happy birthday to Debbie, and "hi-ya" to Trish and Clay-Girl #3 (sorry I don't know your name). I hope the roads back to Clay County were OK.
It was really nuts trying to drive home to Ireland, John was beside himself thinking about having to drive clear to Clarksburg.
This morning we got out the ruler and found that we got 12" overnight. We opened the chicken coop and the chickens didn't even look out the door. The scanner says Pickens got 19" and Richwood got 21" and it is still coming. (it's snowed 3 more inches since I started writing this) NWS says do not travel unless you have a full tank of gas, blankets, emergency supplies and a government helicopter, so I am guessing that Pete's will cancel tonight. I can't imagine anyone would venture out anyway.
But, who's bitchin'... it IS winter! (well, no, it's actually still autumn, the solstice is on the 21st)
December 18, 2009 - Bring yer mucklucks tonight at Pete's. I guess it's supposed to git white out!!!
December 14, 2009 - This just in from the 'wonderful news department'... Donny Tiziani has told us he would like to help us out on the guitar position for the band. Knowing Donny's calibre of playing, this should be a great step forward for the band. John will be playing with us through January 2nd at the Crystal Lounge.
December 13, 2009 - A big happy 'Happy Birthday' goes out to Julia and rest of the Bear Skin birthday people! Lotsa pictures courtesy of Charlene. I tried to include everybody in that wanted to be in and exclude everybody out that wanted to be out. Whew!
December 12, 2009 - A big happy 'Happy Birthday' goes out to Debbie and Pete. Two cakes of dubious shapes were provided... *gasp!* and devoured. Didn't sing Happy Birthday, don't know why... 'Hey' to Malena, Debbie, Gene and everybody else, thanks for coming out.
December 10, 2009 - Why wasn't I informed??? Kinda late now, but I wanted to mention that Friday night at the Clarksburg Moose is Pete's birthday. Maybe he will wear his birthday suit!!!
December 8, 2009 - Mood for the Day:
The Wolves will suck the bones they bought,
Those over which they Fought,
Their elders always having taught them Envy.
Their Greed betrays the means of their destruction.
Take my rings and trinkets Bright,
But leave my Eyes which give me light,
My tongue which gives me leave to Speak,
The rest is yours and Welcome...

December 6, 2009 - Hey folks, about John...
Well, John's a keyboard player and his heart is really in the keyboards. Anyone who knows John from before mojo doctor know he played keyboards. Remember Borderline and Faded Glory? Even in the 2007 version of mojo doctor with Terry Varner and Adam Young, he played keyboards.
In 2008 when we were trying to regroup after Terry and Adam quit, John really took on a monster job by taking over the guitar spot. He had to relearn all his parts on the guitar, plus re-hone his chops, since he had not played guitar in a band for close to ten years. It took a lot of practice and hard work. Not to mention he had to buy all new guitar equipment.
John has done a very admirable job for the last two years but has decided to go back to keyboards and has joined another band that has wider prospects in the Christian arena. You know... Nashville, fairs, bigger things. John exits mojo doctor with a gold star. He does not owe mojo doctor anything. We owe everything to John. We wish him well and will enjoy the time we have left with him.
In the meantime, we are looking for a guitarist.
In answer to Zick's question about maybe keeping John on part time... good idea, but John won't always be in the area or available. Swapping whoever is available from night to night would be a nightmare. We need a permanent guitarist.
Donny Tiziani of Triple Threat fame is our first pick since we've been friends for over ten years. He knows the music we do plus a ton of stuff we want to do and is quite awesome even on his worst day. But Donny is on call at work on weekends.
Sam Nesbit would be an excellent catch, but he is busy. John Bonnett is a possibility but is touring. Others we have contacted are not available, have shown no interest or have other issues of various sorts.
So... anyone??? Pretty please...
December 3, 2009 - OK, this is getting serious. We need a guitar player for next year and every lead we've gotten on guitar players just seem to have run into a dead end. If you know of anyone who wants to try out, have them or call 452-8155 and ask for Max. Come on, there has to be someone out there that can play guitar and wants to try out.
December 1, 2009 - I forgot to put up the pix from Headliner's. That error has been rectified. My bad!
November 22, 2009 - Hoo haw for another great night at the Bear Skin, and thanks to our special friends for supporting us at Headliner's on Friday.
We will not be playing anywhere next weekend November 27th & 28th. A well deserved weekend off. Have a happy Thanksgiving. Appreciate your families. Love your spouses. Forgive your EXes. Life is short. Quit making each other miserable! Get on with your lives! See you all in December!
November 15, 2009 - Thanks goes out to the Bowler's Association for having us back last Saturday for the third year in a row at the Fairmont Knights of Columbus.
Friday the 13th at the Bear Skin came off well and was a very lucky night.
Next Friday we are at Headliner's for the first time. Please come out to support us and show them what a mojo crowd can do! It's on the Grafton road out of Bridgeport about two miles on the left behind the Reep Graphics building.
November 12, 2009 - A message from Pete:
|
Sorry to all that I haven't been on in a while, been REAL BUSY!!!! We are still looking for a replacement for John, but don't fret, we will find someone soon. Since the last time I was on we have had some wild times both good and bad, and we are looking forward to coming to a place near you. Next up is the Bear Skin for Friday the 13th. Ya'll had better be ready for this one, starts at nine. 'til next time...
SEE Y'ALL AFTER DARK!!!!!
---Pete |
November 2, 2009 - Good advice from one of our fans:
|
Sometime this year, we taxpayers may receive another Economic Stimulus payment. This is a very exciting new program. I will explain it using the Q and A format:
Q. What is an Economic Stimulus payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.
Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a portion of it, and that part will be taxable.
Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. They hope you will purchase a high-definition TV set and stimulate the economy.
Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Shut up.
Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:
- If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, your money will go to China
- If you spend it on gas, it will go to the Mid-East
- If you purchase a computer, it will go to India
- If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico
- If you buy a car, it will go to Japan
- If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan
- If you take out a mortgage or buy stock, it will be hidden offshore in CEO bonuses
Instead, keep the money in the USA by spending it on:
- yard sales
- live music
- prostitutes
- beer
- tattoos
These are the only American businesses still operating in the USA. I'm going to go to see mojo doctor with a tattooed prostitute that I met at a yard sale and we're going to drink beer all night!

November 1, 2009 - Cha! Halloween, full moon, pumping rock, booze, monsters, witches, goblins, the Bear Skin, damned little inhibition... what a combination! 125 pictures will reveal all.
October 24, 2009 - Just a quick update without much hoohaw. We had a real enjoyable night Friday at the Crystal with a great selection our Clarksburg friends. Tons of pix! Saturday we took a well deserved night off.
Be sure to get ready for the Halloween bash at the Bear Skin Inn in French Creek next Saturday night. We start at 9. Be there or be square!
October 18, 2009 - For some of our readers (Lisa, Lisa) this belated rambling is long overdue. I have been told that there are a few of you out there who live and breathe for my next espousal, though I find it to be increasingly difficult to find something original and unspoken rattling around in my aching brain. I appreciate the audience you yield me and your reverence to my musings, and though I find them mundane and repetitious, you evidently find them charming and quaint. Or whatever. And for that, I love you.
Then there are those of you who wait for Sundays just to look at the pictures and see what kind of trouble your friends and acquaintances (or yourselves, in case you have blank spaces) got into over the weekend. That's good, I guess. It keeps everyone somewhat proper and civil in public, hopefully.
And, of course, there are the lurkers who come here to look for pretty girls and boobie pics... well, for you I will try me bestest with what we got. Aye, mateys!
I still haven't heard specifically from anyone serving overseas... I heard that there were some troops who kept up with pics of friends and family at home but no one has ever commented on the bulletin board or myspace.
On the news front, Friday night beheld a kinda lively, kinda subdued, sorta OK, but entirely respectable party. At least until "some stupid with a flare-gun burnt the place to the ground." Well, the place was not literally, physically burnt to the ground in the sense of "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple, but it may as well have been. Near the end of the last set (thank goodness they waited until then, at least) the crowd's high spirits were sapped and soaked by a steadily escalating and evidently unquenchable disagreement over some unbeknownst slight between two individuals. The conflagration grew larger and louder as brothers, sisters, management and cousins joined the fray, attempting to either separate or to assist their respective principal party. The fuss spilled out from bar to seating area to the parking lot, then to the highway and for a time, as the ball of fist-swingers and grabbers-on grew to around ten in number, it rolled around in the ditch on the other side of the road. It ranged back and forth from road to parking lot to bar and, as the band hurriedly threw boxes and cables unsorted into the trailer in an effort to "get the hell out of Dodge", they came around to the back door at our loading area. Since good fortune was with us, we and our gear escaped unscathed. However, we came to a conclusion that it might be best, at present, to abandon the place to its rightful denizens and the state law; and we forthwith respectfully decline to commit ourselves to future possible physical and financial risk. Especially since our next date there was to be Friday the 13th. Whew!
Now, with all that excitement, whatever clever things I come up with about Saturday at the Eagle's will surely seem comparatively dull. Happy, smiling people having a good time without beating the shit out of each other? Not particularly sensational. I mean, when was the last time you turned on the news and watched a breaking news-flash about a peaceful interaction between two local/national/global citizens? When was the last time you wanted to? Boring! Not newsworthy! We are not titillated by peace! I mean, I can't even come up with a sardonic example of phony, newsworthy peace to place here, so alien is such a thing to our innate desire for explosions, dismemberments, atrocities and bloodbaths!
Nonetheless, in as much as Saturday was a fine party with libation, celebration, exaltation and no detected consternation... I am still not sure what to think about the smoke machine. It looked cool in the lights but it sure did stink. Your comments, pro or con, would be welcome. Kudos and cheers go out to the DeBarr clan and Zick's crew, too (inclusive of all friends and relatives, of course), to Donny's boss and work crew (we sure do wish y'all could find a way to let Donny have weekends free so we could put him to work on guitar!!!, pretty, pretty please, huh?), to our newest myspace and facebook friends and everyone else who made Saturday a fun night for a bunch of old rock'n'rollers, and to the staff at the Eagle's who booked us through next year and for New Year's of 12/31/2010... now that's a ways out to be sure, but it's nice to know that they want us to play.
Speaking of New Year's, this year we will be at the Summersville Moose, so be sure to call ahead and make plans.
On the web page front, we have spread out a bit as you may have noticed. We are tending to lean more toward facebook and less toward myspace, which in my opinion is becoming too big, fat, slow and bloated. You all may have noticed that I have shut off all applications and most images. They slow pages way down on a dial-up connection. There are some of your pages that are so full of bumper-stickers, games and drinks, that I just give up and never get to see them. It's fine if you have DSL... but I don't... I just never was too excited about myspace, or myspace messaging either. Facebook seems quicker and so much easier to comment back and forth.
Well, that's about all I can think of for now. As always... thanks to everyone known and unknown, named and unnamed, beaded and unbeaded, who appreciates us... we appreciate you... so keep on supporting us and we will do our best to rock your socks off!
Later, mojos and mojoettes!
P.S. Our name is mojo doctor, not mojo doctors. Not that it matters what you call us, as long as you come out and see us, it's just that we like to called by our right name.
October 11, 2009 - Reconstructed the gallery directories to make maintenance easier. Let us know if you find any dead links or missing pictures.
Friday was a blast at TRICs, Saturday was a dud at the Goal Rush.
October 9, 2009 - Call me old fashioned, but I thought that to win the Nobel Peace prize one had to actually DO something that contributed materially to precipitating peace.
So many years we suffered here,
Our country racked with 'foreign' wars.
Now comes a chance to find ourselves,
And quiet reigns behind our doors.
We think about posterity again...
---from "The Night Watch" by King Crimson |
October 4, 2009 - 'twas bike week at the Crystal last night. 'HI' to all our new friends and old. Debbie came out! Jack and Vanessa stopped by. Donny Tiziani got up to play guitar. Joe Carter sang 'The Fireman'. Glee was had by all! A sing-along! Mardi Gras beads! Country music on the jukebox! Real live leather chaps! A corset! A chick fight! Full moon. Big bright clouds. Look up!
September 30, 2009 - We now have a facebook page, a myspace page and a youtube page. You can upload comments, pictures and video to facebook, upload comments to myspace and look at just about nothing on youtube since we have uploaded nothing there, yet. Hoo haw... modern technology. Now if they could only get DSL up here!
September 28, 2009 - Just to clarify some concerns that have been expressed to us... (frantic cries of anguish!)... mojo doctor is NOT breaking up. Roger and Pete and I have worked way too hard and we have accumulated too many dear friends whose socks must be rocked off for us to just give up without a whimper. Besides, this is the first band that I have been in since I can remember where I am actually having pure unadulterated fun! John has promised to stick around until New Year's while we find a new guitar player. We believe that nothing happens without a good reason, and when one door closes, two more open... so hang on, mojo doctor ain't going nowhere! Except better!
September 27, 2009 - Well, September is officially completely shot in the ass with another great night at the Bear Skin. Michelle! Michelle! Michelle! See, I did remember your name like I told you I would ! Hi also to new friends Robin and Mike; to Roy the Rattlesnake milker; to Bex... hope you feel better... that's some of heavy-metal you will keep close to your heart forever ; to Barb and John and Kathy... thanks for the drinks, Barb; to Dave and Charlene and family... thanks for the drinks and thanks for taking those extra pictures, Charlene; especially to Den and Jodie... thanks Den for the tip, we really appreciate you; to Brooke for the extra song; to Tona and Richard; to Chris and to Amy, Amanda, Nora!, Ty, Jeff, Bryce... and the rest I cannot name but know to see... the list could go on and on... you know you were there! And thanks to Patty for having us! Enjoy the slide show. I hope I got at least one of everybody. See you back at the Bear Skin for Halloween. And remember... breast exams are voluntary and purely clinical... you can trust us as your... mojo doctor!
September 20, 2009 - Well, September is just about shot in the ass. I notice that it's starting to be dark now as we're driving out to play. The summer of 2009 has been a good one and we have had a lot of fun playing at old places and finding new ones. We've busted butt, learning a lot of new material and covering new ground. We were really taken by surprise as to how popular we have become. We never thought that you all would respond as you have and we appreciate very much each and every one of you.
We had a blast at Jody and Den's party, sorry we didn't get any pictures, we were so high up in the air, there was not much to get a shot at. But a good time was had by all.
In spite of success, John has given us notice of his intending to quit playing after New Years, because of too much work, stress, and lack of free time. So once again we are in the market for a guitar player. And Pete is in the market for a car... wink, wink, nudge, nudge... We intend to hit 2010 running and don't plan on canceling any jobs, so if anyone who knows of a spare guitar player lying around anywhere, please spread the word to help keep mojo motoring!
September 13, 2009 - September is the month of outdoor parties. Last night was the second of three, this one at Zick's place out at Boy Scout Camp, hosted by the Zickefooses (Ted and Remona) and Pattersons (Jeff and Debbie). I must say y'all had some fine food, I had to keep going back for more. Also, as at Debarr's, y'all exhibited BSE, or 'Bear Skin Enthusiasm.' Much appreciated, as well as the fireworks, the campfire, the band shelter... and did I mention then food? I had a hard time keeping up with the camera (Donna, where are you?) and my batteries did not last the whole night... so... if anyone wants to send me some more pictures (I know a lot were taken), just send them to .
September 12, 2009 - Thanks to Ray and Laura (and Cathy! and Zane!) for welcoming us to the Pioneer Inn for the first night, a great time, we hope, was had by all. We liked the sound we got in the room, and the crowd evidently liked the music we made. "Hey!" to the Clay County girls who came the whole way across Peach Orchard to hit a deer, party, dance and then take Debbie to the hospital for a broken (in two places) wrist. We hope she is well. I know it looked like it hurt. It was a foggy night going home, we hope everyone arrived home safe.
September 9, 2009 - For those of you who are nine-o-philes - or lovers of all things NINE... (such as The Beatles' Revolution #9, John Lennon's #9 Dream, Nine Inch Nails, Tuesday the 9th, Cloud 9, Nine Lives, etc.) this morning held the singular occurance of 09/09/09 09:09:09. Hope you didn't miss it! If you did, you can wait until next year and celebrate 10/10/10 10:10:10.
September 7, 2009 - Joe Menendez was killed this weekend in a motorcycle accident coming back from Chillicothe. We'd like to offer our condolences to our friend Debbie and to all of Joe's friends and family. He will be sadly missed. Also, our sympathies go out to Sharon Harris, who recently lost her husband, John.
September 6, 2009 - Wow! Great to be back at the Bear Skin Inn after... oh, that was Charlene's place... well, just the same, what a bunch of food eating, liquor sloshing, foot stomping, hand clapping, git-r-done kind of people you got together up there. Just look at the slide show. It is Sunday now and raining, so, I'd say you scheduled your party perfectly. One day later and it would have been a mud bog. We all had a great time and appreciate your hospitality! Hope to do it again next year. We will have more comments here shortly and maybe more pictures, so check back.
Friday, the crowd at the Crystal was small because of about three or four other major events going on in the area, but that was a major positive, because the people who did come out to see us were definitely there to party with the doctor! It was fun to play and have crowd response after every song for a change. And, did I say the Crown was very good?
August 31, 2009 - Wow! Great to be back at the Bear Skin inn after a few months away. You guys just win the prize, hands down, as the most excitable bunch of people we know anywhere! (slide show)
August 23, 2009 - Things can happen out in the crowd that I never notice, but this can't go unnoticed or unmentioned:
| It seems that somebody has been going out in mojo doctor shirts and yelling "mojo doctor" at Neutral shows.
Although we can appreciate their enthusiasm and zeal, this is very disrespectful to Neutral and an embarrassment to mojo doctor.
The members of mojo doctor respect and appreciate the effort and commitment that it takes to create music and play out in public. I hope the fans do. We do not consider us or them or better or worse... only different. Musicians everywhere should be applauded for their effort to bring you joy and fun, whatever your style of music, and whatever your favorite band.
So, please stop! It's a lot of hard work! Here's to the music and to hell with the politics!
And this would apply to negative comments toward The Edge as well.
--- Max and mojo doctor |
| Well said, Max. Neutral couldn't have put it any better.
There is no reason for bands to compete against each other. Always respect bands for what they are doing, because it's not easy. If it was, everybody would be doing it. Also, bar owners do not look at these things as good business, they look at it as a bunch of high school bullshit that they don't need to deal with. Then what do you end up with? You end up with neither band being able to get shows.
Let me explain how it works. Word travels fast in the bar world. Once you get labeled as a band that brings in high school drama, all the other bars get this information. Then you end up with neither band being able to play in that town.
So, Neutral agrees with everything you have said and we hope this ends the problem.
Rock on, mojo doctor!!!
--- Tim from Neutral |
| Excellent, Max! I'm sure you speak for a whole lot of us fellow musicians (and music lovers) who know that respect is, indeed, mutual. Looking forward to sitting in with you guys sometime, soon!
--- Marc |
August 22, 2009 - OK, put on a happy face... Friday's pictures are here. Saturday at the Kanawha was canceled since Wayne's air was not fixed in time. Have a great weekend!
August 21, 2009 - Still no word on the Kanawha's air conditioning. Maybe we could all get together and do a sweat lodge kind of thing.
We also booked a date on November 20th at a new place (to us) called Shelton's on US-50 east of Bridgeport (formerly Headliner's).
August 20, 2009 - Wayne's air conditioning at the Kanawha went kaputt this week. He is trying to get it repaired by Saturday. As of right now Saturday's gig at the Kanawha is up in the air. Watch here for news. We will know for sure by Friday night.
August 16, 2009 - I warned you... the party was at Pete's and some of you missed it. Friday was hot and Saturday was cooking. Friday's 'HI' goes out to Stacey. (sorry we didn't talk!) Saturday's goes out to Trish! (thank you!) A tip of the shutter goes out to Janet's friend from Maryland. (very nice!) Cheers to the Braxton County Class of '99 for partying with us. Thanks to everyone else who came out, regulars and first timers, enjoy the slide show.
Also, we were informed that our website has become popular to some of our fans' relatives serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. I guess the pictures give them a little taste home to pass the time away from home. If this is so... let us know by posting a comment in the guestbook. It would be really cool to know that mojo doctor has gone global and that we can spread a little cheer among the troops! And be safe!
August 14, 2009 - We just booked New Years Eve at the Summersville Moose.
August 9, 2009 - Odd weekend last... very hot and humid, hard to move, hard to jump around. The air conditioning and bartenders trying hard to keep up. Man, I can't wait for snow! Plus it didn't help having the side of my thumb almost cut off with a wood plane Friday. Boss! De plane! de plane!!! Pete got about three hours total sleep over the weekend having to work early Saturday and Sunday both. Roger came in dragging too, having to get up early on Saturday. It really was amazing that we were able to function on so little energy and such hot conditions. But then I'm just complaining...
Must have been something going on. We saw very few of our regulars this weekend. Malena and Debbie were in New York. We had a bunch of different people at PJ Kelly's Friday, but we really just couldn't seem to connect. We're up there jumping around trying to put on a good show and all you can see in the crowd is people's faces peering into the little blue screens of their cell-phones and Blackberries. I mean, really, can't you put those toys away and get up and dance? Look, your woman is grooving to the music and you are texting your buddies. The world is passing by and you're looking cool staring into a 1.5" screen. Come on!
Patty from the high school reunion crowd got up to sing harmony on Drift Away and then got back up to do the whole lead vocal on Mustang Sally, and very well, too. Patty, you need to get something going singing out.
Saturday was a nice crowd at the Bear Skin. Quiet at first and noisy/rowdy at the end. Larry was there for a while until Trecia poured him into his truck. Hope ya got home OK, buddy. Charlene and her family and Steve, Amy and Bryan came out and we are grateful. I don't know where Barb and company were. Amy and Michele the girl in picture 2 (whose name I do not know) partook of our last three tank tops and contributed much hooting and hollering. And Christine was very photogenic.
Looking ahead, we booked another private party (making three) in September. We also booked Patty's birthday on January 16th at the Bear Skin (plus several other dates thru May) and booked the first Saturday of every month in 2010 at the Crystal Lounge.
August 3, 2009 - Woo, what a weekend, I am still recuperating. Thanks to Gene, Wayne and JD (Jaydee, Jadey, Jadie???), and Pete's family and to the many other people for getting the party rockin' at the Moose on Friday. And to everyone that came out to the Crystal on Saturday... we say 'What a party!' To those who saw us for the first time, we hope you'll be back! Don't miss us at PJ Kelly's on Friday next, and on Saturday we plow back into the Bear Skin in Rock Cave/French Creek for a much anticipated reunion. Be there or be square!
July 26, 2009 - Well, this weekend was a blast, we got a nice welcome back to the Crystal with all kinds of cool people, Greg and his wife, Terri and Sheila, Shawn Moscar, Crystal and Malena, Traci and Trudy and many others! We pulled off a couple new songs which went over well. Tried out the new strobe lights which made everyone go "wow!"
Saturday was a surprise who's-who of Lewis County notables at the Democratic Women's elimination dinner at the Weston Moose. We had the pleasure of meeting county prosecuting attorney Gary Morris, county commissioner Pat Boyle and Sheriff Mike Gissy, whose wife Nancy was responsible for getting us hired as the entertainment. Thank you!. Also 'HI' goes out to Jodi and Den, and Betty, Jan and Gina and others, especially the bar ladies who kept our spirits UP!
July 19, 2009 - Saturday was our first night at the Buckhannon Eagles, hopefully not our last because we love you people! I noticed a nice assortment of very bright solid-colored shirts, very photogenic. 'Hey' to Bex and Charlene and many of the Bearskin crowd. Thanks for making the night a night to remember.
Quite the difference from Friday. If it wasn't for BJ and CJ and John, we would not have had anyone there, except the backs at the bar, maybe because we weren't even listed on their calendar. Jerry and Vickie came down from Uniontown, PA to see us and almost did not get in. They were told "the band shouldn't be telling people to come out and see them" ??!!?? OK. Jerry played drums in a band I toured with in the early eighties and that was a whole other life a long time ago. It was good to see you, Jerry.
Last week was the party. The weather cooperated every day except the day we set up to play. After getting bummed and getting soaked, the kids started to chant NO RAIN, and the rain went away. Then the evening was filled with music. Donny and Bill came down and provided two thirds of Triple Threat with either Roger or Joe providing one third... or two sixths, I guess. Drums that is. Donny broke out his new synth guitar and looper pedal and amazed everyone. Logs were burnt, horseshoes were thrown, chickens were chased, burgers were ett, CDs were played, bottles were emptied, beads were distributed, chairs were passed out in... slide show here.
The July Fourth weekend was spent at Pete's Place in Sutton. Still haven't seen hide nor hair of the Clay County crew, except for Glenda. Guess they musta died.
I'll probably be adding to this entry as I think of astute, observant, clever and entertaining things to write, so check back, y'all.
June 28, 2009 - Wild and crazy bunch both nights this week. I promised I'd do better trying to remember names of people I talked to, but here I am again empty-handed on several people.
We were cooking so hot at Weston on Friday, we vibrated the mirror-ball spot-lights so they aimed up on the ceiling. Terri, you are such a nut, we love you! Thanks to Debi for talking to Wayne. Yo to Cam and Janice. Jodi and Den came up from Walkersville. It was Jodi's birthday... Happy Birthday, Jodi. Got our new banner from Graphic Designs of Gassaway. Looks good. More, bigger, better backdrop later.
Boy, it was a muggy night Saturday at Clarksburg. John was burnt like toast from working on the roof all week, he had that cool 'surfer' look. I had a particularly sore throat both nights but muddled through. Forgot to bring the t-shirts and beads both nights. That's how out-of-it I was. I swore at the end of the second set that we had played three sets and was ready to pack up and go. Passed the hat. Hey to Tim and his lovely sister. Malena came but had to leave by midnight to go to work. Debbie is evidently in Florida, so hello to Florida if you are lurking from there. 'Hi' to Bret, who sauntered in to visit, not knowing who mojo doctor was, or who was playing in it. What a blast from the past. Bret ran Freaker's in Bridgeport and Spanky's in Anmoore a few years back. Remind me to recount some of it for you sometime.
We have decided that we are evidently not playing loud enough or fast enough as can be seen from picture #8 in the Clarksburg Moose slide show this week. You can find it yourself, I don't feel like typing all the code. But then you know mojo doctor thumps so good, even deaf people can feel the beat and dance to us.
We had a little flame war started in the guestbook, but then I decided that that was SO immature. Fun's where the fare's at! Removed the relevant posts and hope outsiders will be civil, forthwith. Also, paid $6 and made the guestbook ad-free for half a year, which is cool.
We'd like to know where you would like us to play for New Years eve. Please let us know by sending us an . Please let the owners of your favorite place know, too! And bar/club owners... we are taking bids until July 31. Please us at the same address.
June 25, 2009 - Hmm...
| There are no differences but differences of degree between different degrees of differences and no difference.
---William James (1842-1910) under the influence of nitrous oxide. |
June 24, 2009 - That's what I thought...
| Guts... and balls... there is a difference!
We've all heard about people having guts or balls, but do you really know the difference? In an effort to keep you informed and to alleviate further confusion the definitions are shown below:
GUTS is arriving home late after a night out with the guys, being met by your wife with a broom and having the guts to ask: 'Are you still cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?'
BALLS is coming home late after a night out with the guys, smelling of perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on the butt and having the balls to say: 'You're next, Chubby!'
I hope this clears up any confusion on the definitions. Medically speaking, however, there is no difference in the outcome, both ultimately result in death.

June 21, 2009 - Hoo boy, what a weekend. What kinda alcohol you drinkin', dawgs???
This weekend the crowd was smaller than usual because of many other events going on in the area. But that only meant that the people who did show up were definitely there to party with mojo doctor and were not there just because there was nothing else to do. Pete's Place said that even tho the door was less than normal, they sold more booze than anytime in recent memory.
We tried some of our new songs on y'all, and they went over pretty well. Def Leppard's 'Fooling' makes us an official Def Leppard cover band now with more DL songs than anything else. 'Seven Nation Army' features my (me, mine, max's) bass as the main riff. Lit's 'My Own Worst Enemy' gets everyone jumping up and down in time and Jimmie Eat World's 'The Middle' is going over OK. The big favorite's seem to be 'So Hott', 'Voodoo' and 'You Got Another Thing Coming', (which when played following 'Dirty Deeds' runs sort of like a Leslie Sansone exercise tape... huff, huff... gasp!)
The t-shirts were a hit, tho I thought the plain shirts would sell better than the girl's tank tees... since who would want to go around wearing a shirt that draws attention to one's breasts??? Evidently OUR mojo-girls do. Music was played... beer was drunk... shirts were sold... beads were distributed... I guess you'll just have to go to the slide show to see what kind of trouble Glenda, Linda, John, Amy, Regina, Bob, Debbie and everyone else got into.
Also, happy birthday to Janet and to Bob.

| I dreamed last night that I got stopped at a DUI checkpoint and the cop made me do Itsy-Bitsy Spider for my field sobriety test and let me go... WTF???

June 17, 2009 - UPS just delivered the t-shirts (the plain ones anyway) and they are sweet! I got 5 small, 5 medium, 5 large and 5 gigundo made for guys or ladies. The plain mojo doctor tees will be $15. The ladies' spaghetti strap tank tops (with the special anatomical declaration) will be $15 also... but only with visual proof that you are worthy to display them honestly. I'm hoping the tanks will be here in time for Pete's this weekend. I figure they should be here tomorrow. But in any event, the plain ones will be available at Pete's... first come, first served.
June 11, 2009 - Whoa, dude! Sorry, I updated all the pages from last weekend, and uploaded all 60 pictures from the Crystal and then somehow didn't include the updated gallery page in the upload. Then I got so sick I couldn't see straight for two days, and of course nobody called or emailed or commented that there were no pictures up until Thursday at practice. I could have been hit on the road dead...
June 7, 2009 - I was gone all day today, but I'm back and here you go. Awesome crowd and show at the Crystal last night. Thanks for letting us rock you out!
June 6, 2009 - Yay, Moose!
June 4, 2009 - Just checking to see if there would be any interest in these t-shirts. (see June 2, below) This would be just one version that we are looking into getting. If so,
us and let us know, or comment us at myspace.com/mojo_doctor and let everyone know.
Also, I posted 35 additional pictures from PJ Kelly's (5/22) in the slide show. These were provided courtesy of Uncle Dan.
June 3, 2009 - I added a cheap little guestbook to the site. It's not much, but you can leave comments for everyone to read. Just click the "guestbook" link to the left or click this.
June 2, 2009 - Back in April, my brother Joe got me this way cool t-shirt that says "I play in mojo doctor and have a big dick". After the guys and some of our fans asked "where'd ya get that way cool t-shirt?" I emailed Joe to see if he could get me some more of them and how much they would cost. He forwarded my request to the t-shirt company and after a short time they replied to him. He sent their reply on to me, and I present it to you, thus:
| Dear Max,
Thank you for your interest in purchasing more shirts like the one your brother Joe had made for you that states "I play in mojo doctor and have a big dick."
We here at Big Bob Bonaparte's T-shirt Emporium are a bit embarrassed to inform you that, at first, we thought this shirt was a misprint. From your reputation we figured the words "have a" were supposed to read "am a". All the same, we rolled with it as it still seemed to make sense.
Please note that to prevent false advertising suits, when claims such as dick size are requested to be put into print on our t-shirts, we require sworn testimony from said dick owner. In the case of your shirt, personal affirmation from you was waived since Joe is your brother and it's common knowledge to everyone, everywhere that his dick is, in fact, VERY big. So we gave you the benefit of doubt that yours is (or may be), too.
However, since Joe isn't related to anyone else in your noisy little quartet, any other band members requesting shirts that state the same will need to provide notorized affidavits confirming that those member's members are, well, actually big members... which we feel is highly doubtful due to THEIR reputations, especially your 'drummer' Ronald. Or Ogner? Whatever his name is, we've all heard his sad status even here in New Jersey.
Men in your growing cult following (who I'm sure all drive big black 4x4 pick-ups or the like) are also welcome to purchase "I'm a fan of mojo doctor and have a big dick" t-shirts under the same guidelines.
-HOWEVER-
Females who desire an "I'm a fan of mojo doctor and have nice tits" t-shirt will NOT be trusted to tell the truth in any affidavit whatsoever. They must submit pictures of aforementioned nice tits for judgement directly to me, Joe, oops - I mean Big Bob, president of the company. This applies to all female fans, be they groupies, waitresses, or members' wives / girlfriends / sisters / daughters / moms.
Actually any woman you can find will do, even one you may see while driving to or from a show, be she a hitchhiker or tollbooth operator. Hell, I don't care if she's working the Wendy's drive thru window, just get me some damn booby pics, man. Inform all female fans that we will soon be opening our thong line, so posterior shots are also strongly encouraged and greatly appreciated.
In closing, we here at Big Bob's are glad you like the shirt and look forward to helping your fellow band members and male fans... and most importantly, to servicing your women.
Sincerely, Joe - I mean Big Bob. |
May 31, 2009 - Oh dear, what a bunch of naughty children we have been this weekend!!!
Friday's Pete's Place crowd was smallish but very engaging, which was unusual. Pete was really on his game both nights and the crowd responded. Adam stopped in, and we'd like to say a special 'thank you' to Terry Varner and his wife Becky who came down from Jane Lew. Terry and Adam were members of mojo doctor in 2007 back when we played way more country. Also 'HI' to Malena and Debbie, and Steve and Amy, plus others...
Pete's Place was packed Saturday. I have not, in recent memory, seen such a bunch of enthusiastic jumping-up-and-down people... a stage-crushing crowd demanding... nay... crying out for foot stomping, head-swinging, chorus screaming rock-n-roll and beads, beads, beads... oh, the insanity of it all. Glenda has her picture up on her MySpace page already! She was the sole representative of the Clay County crew. We missed the rest of the CCC, but fun was still had. It was hot and everyone was sweating, but you all kept on dancing 'til the night was over.
'Hey' to Jim Bob and his girlfriend, and Jodie came down from the Wild Horse, plus there are about six regulars (Ten-Beads girl, the Split-Guy and others) that I still don't know names of... my bad! Thanks for believing that mojo doctor can rock your socks off! We recorded both nights, now if I can get time to go thru the files and find some stuff worthy of rebroadcast.
We'd also like to send out two very special prayers... one to Allen Bartlett who lost his father this week, our sympathies are with you, buddy. The other goes out to Paw Paw who was in the hospital for surgery, please get well soon, we missed you in your rocking chair and the tee-shirt give-away was just not the same without you.
Keep tuned for the next transmission. We love you all...
Also, here is more from our fearless leader, Pete, from his MySpace his MySpace blog:
GOD I LOVE ROCK-N-ROLL 2!
Way to go Braxton county! Y'all showed up in force Saturday night (5/30). I worked in a strip bar for 3 years and didn't enjoy it this much. I really want to thank veryone for the support they show us when they come out. Y'all dont know how much fun that makes it for us. But we hope you're having just as much fun as we are. It's nice when everyone lights up the dance floor like y'all did. We may have rocked you, but you guys rocked us back.
Thank you so very much to the Mojo faithful and also to the ones who seen us for the first time. To me it's worth all the effort we put in. I would say more but all you have to do is read the offical blog, Max said it all.
So everyone Party safe so we can see you again AND...
SEE Y'ALL AFTER DARK
---Pete |
May 27, 2009 - I have consolidated some of Pete's other recent comments from his blog at his MySpace page for those of you who don't go to MySpace:
| Saturday (5/23) at the Crystal was a good evening, although a little subdued, realizing it was so hot that no one really was able to dance that much. We thank everyone for coming out to see us, both our new friends and our old ones.
Friday (5/22) provided a new wave of insanity as we visited PJ Kelly's for the first time. A good crowd turned out for us, but man was it HOT. We appreciate the hospitality of the staff there and look forward to coming again in August. If there is a God, then let him turn on the air conditioner because it was hot this weekend.
I'd like to say hi to all of our Buckhannon friends. Hellos go out to Becca, Whitney, Debbie, Amy and Barb! Last Saturday (5/16) at the Kanawha Lounge was just the boost I needed. It was the first time that we were in there as a group and the first time for myself in about 9 years. The only thing I would have done differently is to have personally shook everyone's hand who was there. The crowd was massive and I feel the band was on their game. When it's like that it's a lot of fun for everyone. We had people listening on cell phones. I am sore tired and extremely happy. Thank you to everybody.
Friday (5/15) was the Buckhannon Moose on the banquet hall side, I think Rob really wanted us there bad. Which leads me to say thanks to one and all for supporting us the previous Saturday night (5/9) at the Moose on the bar side, we really enjoyed ourselves. I wished I had more time to talk to everyone. Thank you to Barb for the First Break Shot, I know I need to find a regular liquor.
The band took a needed break on Friday (5/8), but that doesn't mean we rested on our laurels either. On Wednesday night I went to Biaggio's and made contact with some old acquaintances and made some new ones. Friday afternoon, John and I went to PJ Kelley's in Clarksburg and with a little persistence and some help from their kitchen staff (thanx guys!) we managed to book two gigs there the first on 5/22, the second is on 8/7. They have done a lot of work there and the place really looks outstanding. We are looking forward to coming there and really rocking the place. Friday night we all got together again. John, Roger and I went to Fairmont to Winston's then to JAX and couldn't catch any body at either place and we also discussed new songs ideas.
So when you think that a band has a weekend off that all we do is sit around and scratch ourselves then you would be wrong. This is how we get into places you want to see us at. Until next time...
SEE Y'ALL AFTER DARK!
---Pete |
May 25, 2009 - We added 35 more pictures that Uncle Dan took at PJ Kelly's to the end of the slide show.
We also added a page of MP3 downloads recorded last weekend at the Crystal Lounge. If you have a fast connection, they should stream. If you have a slow connection, just right-click/save-as and open them with your music player when they are done downloading. They are not perfect, but not bad for a first stab. Enjoy!
May 24, 2009 - Gotta buncha good pictures from PJ Kelly's on Friday. It as the first night we played there. One person said it was a normal crowd, someone else said it was a good crowd, but who's splitting hairs? Cool place... but very hot. Hot ladies... but very cool!
My Uncle Dan and his lovely wife Nadia from Pennsylvania and cousin Craig from Maryland came down to see us. Craig thanks the locals for the warm reception. He said "These West Virginia people are very friendly." Much potation and libation ensued. After several drinks he said "Theesh Wesht Vagina people are very BLURRY!" He is feeling better now and will be sitting up soon... we hope! Many pictures were took! We thank PJ Kelly's for asking us back in August.
Then Saturday was a subdued and reverential crowd on a stormy night at the Crystal. It was a last minute booking on a holiday weekend with no ads in the paper and we still did almost a hundred people. Wow! Thanks to everyone who came out to see us, except Mr. Seven Foot and his partner, who did not, and who can leave our female friends be.
May 21, 2009 - Hmm, the 101 called and canceled mojo doctor on Saturday. I didn't know we were playing there, I thought we were playing at the Crystal. Good thing we weren't playing at the 101 or we would be sitting at home. Go figure...
May 17, 2009 - Saturday night at the Kanawha Lounge in Buckhannon (5/16) was just about the pinnacle of the rock musician's dream. The place was packed wall-to-wall and everyone was was there for one purpose... to drink some fine spirits, to rock out and to good music and to have a great time with friends! Well, that's three purposes, but it doesn't hurt to have a couple spares.
All the normal "hi"s and "thank you"s to the regulars, John, Barb (thanks for the shots!) and Kathy, Bex (thanks for the squeezes) and Ashley and Stephanie and Whitney and Charlene (who kept us in Bud Lites), Debbie (thanks for the loaner, Malena), Amy Knight (where you been hiding?), Donny and Angie, Bill and Ron (do-do-do-do not attempt to adjust the vertical), Tona and Richard (you can't hide your face under that hat forever!), John and Melinda, and Brian, Steve and Amy.
And to all the people who we haven't yet learned the names of... the girl in the 'Rock Star' shirt, the girl in the 'John Deere' shirt, the girl in the 'AC-DC' shirt, and all the other hotties and cuties... all the men, too, the guy in the Harley hat (dude watch your ear!) and to all the people the rest of the guys talked to that I didn't.
Thanks to Wayne for having faith that we could rock his place down, and for the extra consideration at pay time. We love the Kanawha Lounge because we can open up the sound system and sound BIG, and because the movie screen behind us let's us do some awesome things with the lights. The stage is big enough we can jump and stomp around and act like a bunch of rock stars! You can see what we (and you) looked like in the slide show!
A special request to everyone who came out last night and saw us for the first time... don't wait for Strawberry Festival to come out and see us again... come anytime, bring a friend, consult our calendar.
Next Friday (5/22) is our first gig at PJ Kelly's in Clarksburg, please help us make a good impression by coming out to party with us!
Thanks bunches, mojo doctor loves you all!
May 16, 2009 - Well, call me the weatherman, predicted rain and got fair weather. Imagine that! Thanks Barb for the Strawberry Daiquiri... I know it's a wussie drink, but it got ME buzzed!
May 11, 2009 - We just booked next Friday (5/15) at the Buckhannon Moose on the BIG side. This weekend is Strawberry Festival weekend in Buckhannon. And, since it is Strawberry Festival weekend in Buckhannon, it WILL rain. Guaranteed. Happens every year. So... why stand outside getting soaked when you walk one block either side of Main Street and party with the guys in mojo doctor! So that makes it Friday (5/15), we will be at the Moose Club, North Kanawha Street in the big room (on the left as you come in) open to the public from 10pm to 1am and Saturday (5/16) we will be at the Kanawha Lounge (Wayne's World) on South Kanawha Street from 10pm to 1am. Y'all come see us...and leave your umbrellas at the door! Be there or be square!
May 10, 2009 - Big fat full moon last night and boy did it show! Weird night! Everybody and their sisters showed up at the Moose. Malena and Debbie came down, (and Malena after a full day's work after a full night's partying the night before). What a trooper. Barb and John came and bought shots for the band (that's a first-break tradition... I learned). Missed you Kathy! Betty and her three daughters (sorry I can't remember your names, I'm lucky I can remember my own) came out for Mother's Day present and then had to leave because of some bullshit caused by some trouble maker... sorry you had to leave, we missed you. Next time leave your cell phones at home. Terri came down and kept Donna company, took some pictures and provided jabs, grabs and stabs! Overall, must lusting 'innuendo and out de udder'. At midnight, we were ready to pack it up but confusion reigned supreme about whether it was a three hour gig or four hour gig, (it was booked as a three hour gig because the last time the whole crowd had left by midnight... go figure), but then Rob had us play an extra set in which the crowd alternated between jubilant adoration and wandering inattention. Lots of cute girls, tight shorts, provocative dancing. God, I love summer!
May 4, 2009 - We just booked next Saturday (5/16) during Strawberry Festival in Buckhannon at the Kanawha Lounge. The Kanawha is a nice big room and we should sound real sweet there!
May 3, 2009 - Thanks to everyone for coming out to the Crystal last night (5/2). A special 'HEY' goes out to Malena, Crystal and friends and to Yvette who probably won't get to see this anyway since she does not have a computer. Also, to all everyone else whose names I do not know, we love you all!
We'll be back to the Crystal on May 23rd, but you don't have to wait 'til then, come see us anywhere. Check out our calendar. In the meantime, enjoy the slide show.
May 2, 2009 - Steaming right into May... nice little crowd at the Moose last night. Sorry we could not play over, we had made previous plans for after the gig and had to run out. We hope to see everyone tonight at the Crystal.
Also, for what it is worth... I found a message on my machine Friday morning from the Downtown 101 wondering if we were playing there Friday night because they saw on our website we were booked in Clarksburg. After several call backs to endless ringing, then a message saying "voice mailbox is full" we left it at that. Never heard back. We don't know where a May 1st gig at the 101 could have come from. Those Clarksburg gigs have been booked since at least new years. ??!!??
April 27, 2009 - I'll get right on that, but in the meantime...
| i wanted to post a comment on the MySpace site but for some reason i couldn't. i wanted to let all of you know you guys are what makes the fun come out in the clay county girls. we have found no one like mojo doctor. the fun begins for us at the first song. ---Trish |
Thanks for the nice comment, we really enjoy playing for people who know how to have fun, and that's what it's all about, right?
April 26, 2009 - Boy, it's about time this rain and cold vamoosed! It got up to 90 degrees today and the sun felt really good. It was just as hot last night at Pete's. Hot bar, cold beer and wild women! Thanks to my brother Joe for the way cool t-shirt. Hi to Trish, Vickie, Angela, Lisa Marie and others whose names presently escape me! As usual, a slide show for your enjoyment.
April 22, 2009 - I don't know what the other guys have been doing, but over the last weekend Donna and I took a trip to New Jersey to visit family. We got some pictures here.
April 12, 2009 - Happy Easter, all!
First... we would like to apologize to any of Malena's friends who were selectively turned away from the Crystal last week (4/4) and could not get in to her birthday party. That was the Crystal's doing and had we known sooner, we would have made the necessary adjustments with the management. That was just wrong. It will not happen a second time.
We were back at the Wild Horse on this drippy Friday (slide show) and saw a lot of old friends, and some new. 'Hi' to Si. Terry came down with a birthday cake to celebrate with Donna, and also used her stage hand's union card to help me hang the lights. 'Yo' to Jodie! Thanks for having us back!
Saturday (4/11) was cool and clear, with not so many people as usual at the Bear Skin... but then a bad night at the Bear Skin is like a good night anywhere else. We figure it was off because of the holidays. But those that did show up did a real good job at getting tuned up for Easter Sunday. Good work, people! Hope you all made it to church this morning. ;)
Adam came out from Summersville to party with us. He got up and sang a couple. Lee also got up to play some blues harp with us. Thanks to Barb (very tasty pant leg) and Bex (hot bass guitar ride) for the spirits. (we got home safely) We celebrated Donna's birthday a second time. (thanks Ronda for the card and cookies) Y'all may know Donna as the camera lady, running the roving camera. (she also got home safely) Speaking of camera, face, flash, tasty pant legs, bass guitar rides and spirits... a mess of pictures!
mojo doctor is taking the 17th and 18th off. We will return to rock Pete's on the 24th and 25th.
April 5, 2009 - There were at least three birthdays at the Crystal last night (4/4)... Malena, Kim and Charlotte. It was the biggest crowd I'd seen at the Crystal ever. If there weren't over a hundred fifty paying customers there weren't ten! Malena had a 'gypsies, tramps and thieves' theme and at least two dozen friends in tow. Kim had her table fixed up nice and the whole clan with her. Many of the regulars were there and quite a handful of people I never saw before. The thieves kept the dance floor hopping. John Bolton stopped in (Hi John!) Ten minutes before we were supposed to quit a fight breaks out and they stop us. We had quite a head of steam going. There is nothing like a good fight to take the crowd off the dance floor. At least one young lady stayed and appreciated our last song. Oh, well, overall it was a blast. I'll let Pete elucidate:
| THAT WAS INSANE!!!
I Have never in my life played for a crowd that outrageous and I'll repeat this again... I LOVE ROCK N ROLL!
I give my apologies to the crowd at the Bear Skin. I was ill with a sinus infection last week (3/28) and didn't post anything for y'all, but this sorta covers my feelings the last two Saturdays. We have packed these clubs to the gills. When people come out to support us in that manner, that is the largest reason I came back to playing music! That kind of crowds and that many people make all of our hard work and efforts not be unappreciated. I am sorry if I didn't get to spend as much time talking to each one of indivually as I wanted. With only 15 minutes between sets it can get a little hectic.
Back to last night (4/5)... 3 birthday parties, that leads to fun... there were so many different types of people in there last night at one point I think I passed a preist, a rabbi and a shao-lin monk standing in a row. WOW!!!! I would like to thank everyone for coming out and making our nights like they have been. So please be careful when you party and SEE Y'ALL AFTER DARK!
---Pete |
Be sure to check out Pete's MySpace page at myspace.com/mojodr. You can also leave comments at the Mojo doctor MySpace page at myspace.com/mojo_doctor.
April 1, 2009 - Malena says 'Be prepared for this Saturday night, there's going to be at least 20 of us there for my birthday. My party theme is gypsies tramps and thieves. Wait till you see our crazy outfits!' Plus there are supposed to be one or two other birthdays as well, so the Crystal should be hopping. See y'all there!
March 29, 2009 - Big party last night at the Bear Skin. We were afraid that coming back so soon might mean that not so many people would show up, but boy did you all surprise us!
The evening air outside the Bear Skin had that cool 'summer' feel to it and the rain thankfully held off until Sunday morning. But inside, the atmosphere was 'ot & smokin'. A couple birthdays, an anniversary and many other mini-celebrations of weekend-arrived... taxes done... ex-wife gone... gobbler season coming... whatever...
We tried some of our new songs on you (Let's Get Rocked, Pretty Woman, You Really Got Me and You Shook Me)... we drank a little booze (uh-oh, irish car-bombs, slippery nipples!!!)... we squeezed a little booty (what sweet, soft booty)... we took a lot of pictures for the slide show (boy, was it hard to whittle them down to a reasonable number... 60!) I tried to include everyone who I figured would want to be included and leave those out that probably wouldn't want to be gawked at all day long by the world-wide-webbers... ;)
We booked more dates at the Bear Skin through the end of 2009... see the calendar.
OH - I almost forgot... we performed a scientific experiment this weekend with interesting results... we found that Mardi Gras beads do not have the same effect on Upshur girls that they have on the Braxton control group. The Upshur lab-brats gathered around the 'bead-distribution-station', proceeded with the 'gimme-bright-shiny-beads' craving-frenzy and performed a variety gyratory mate-seeking dances just as we thought they would... but the beads didn't seem to make their shirts move around much. The Upshur group seems to have developed a clever method of getting the treat without performing the trick... or they must have a less stretchy kind of fabric in Upshur County. hmm...
Now the alkohawl, on the other hand, seems to have about the same effect everywhere. I had a couple people fall over my pedals and into me, and Pete (the King of Coordination, the Prince of Grace, the Viceroy of Vertical) tried to ride his floor-monitor like a surfboard and ended up in the arms of a lovely young woman on the dance floor... 'SURF'S UP!' Too bad I didn't have the camera in my hands...
...and what is it with these dot-dot-dots...
Be good, and see you all in April!!! (don't get tricked on April Fool's Day)
March 22, 2009 - First, mojo doctor would like to thank everyone who came out to celebrate our first birthday. Second, we don't know what it is about Mardi Gras beads that just makes the girls go all to pieces, but we love it.
Once again you 'Pete's People' have outdone yourselves. We cranked it up at Pete's Place this weekend, the crowd was awesome, the sound cooperated and we played better than we've played in as long as I can remember. Energy levels (as always at Pete's) were a bit slow the first set or two (I about went to sleep once) but as the 'alkahawl' started to have it's effect, everyone loosened up their tensions and things got pretty interesting. The girls came out to party and the guys out came to watch the girls party. The band and the crowd really fed off each other, cranking it up higher with each set.
Thanks to the Pete's Place crew for keeping the drinks flowing, happy birthday to Christine (that was good cake and ice cream), also yo! to Barb (you looked hot), Malena (cool Kiss collection), Crystal (that was wild dancing), DJ Art (yeah, the eyeliner looked good), the Clay County crew (missed you, Vicki!) and all the regular faces whose names we don't know or forgot (a. yes, Randy Rhodes Rocks!, b. sorry, we did not do Twilight Zone, c. you may not squirt but you got it goin' on!, d. your baby is our youngest rock n roller, e. hope to do that party in May).
For those who came from north and south, thanks for braving the roads and driving so far just to see us. It was pretty wild, we thank you, and hope see you back at Pete's in May.
See our calendar to see where we are playing.
See our picture gallery to see where you were playing.
March 17, 2009 - This last weekend was a mix of cold and hot.
Friday was cold. 'nuff said. Harrumph.
Saturday was HOT! The Bear Skin crowd did not falter for the Saint Patty's Day party. Once again a good time was had by all clear up to closing time. We thank Larry for the hooks to hang the lights and for the advertising to draw the crowd. We also moved the band out of the hole and onto the dance floor where we could mingle closer to our faithful, exuberant fans. Third set, we got Lee Sines up who played some good harp to Mustang Sally.
We have said it before and we will say it again, the Bear Skin attracts some of the best people who know how to get together and have a good time. We love you all, that is 'fer sure!'
March 16, 2009 - I know some of you get tired clicking on each thumbnail, opening the picture and then closing it, so I set up a trial slide show for the Bearskin gig last Saturday. Just go to the picture gallery, find your date of interest and click on "VIEW AS A SLIDESHOW", then click the 'NEXT' button to step through all the pictures. It's not quite everything I would like, but I haven't learned how to write javascript very well, yet.
March 15, 2009 - I get a little beleagered and confounded every Sunday trying to think of something new, witty and worthwhile to say, so I'll just let Pete do the talking for me this week.
| One Year In
Well, it's been one year since this li'l project came to be. We've had some ups n downs... lost a member along the way... but I feel we've found ourselves as a band.
We are headed back to Pete's this weekend, oddly enough, the same place this all started last year, almost to the weekend.
I had about 30 days to learn as many songs as I possibly could and to be honest I was more than a little nervous. It had been 8 years since I had been on stage for a full night. I remember reading alot of words from the "cheat sheets" that weekend and our response... well... y'all didn't quite know how to take us.
So here we are one year later. We have gone through some changes. We got a little more aggressive in our song choices, some of which have paid off, some haven't.
I would love to see one thing happen. I would love to see as many of our fans, friends and neighbors as can show up this weekend come out and help us celebrate our "first birthday" at Pete's in Sutton. We will do our damndest to put on one hell of a show for everyone.
We'd like to thank everyone who has come out to support us during the last year.
Please be careful, party safe and see y'all after dark!
Thnx bunches,
---Pete |
Let's hear a hearty 'hoo haw' and mighty 'hell yeah!' You can check out Pete's well appointed MySpace page at myspace.com/mojodr. It's a little more MySpace friendly than my MySpace page.
March 13, 2009 - Hmmm...
| "I don't want to spend my whole life explaining myself. Either you get it, or you don't."
---Frank Zappa |
March 12, 2009 - Yeah, we're headed back to the 101 for the fourth time and the temperature is headed into the basement right along with us. What gives? Call it refrigerator heaven! Friday the 13th, come out and party with us, Downtown 101 in Buckhannon.
March 8, 2009 - Odd crowd at the Crystal last night, not bad in size - but very subdued... sorta like a PGA golf tournament... polite, unobtrusive applause, almost British, mate. But most everyone stayed the whole night and Jack sold a lotta booze. Hi, to Pete's parents, didn't know it was you until after you left.
March 7, 2009 - Nice welcome at the Clarksburg Moose and an unexpected play-over at the end. Pete was a trooper with the pain from his wisdom teeth getting yanked out. Must be some powerful drugs... I mean drums. Word has it that a bunch of people joined the Moose just so they could see us play there, that's nice... but was it for real 60 people? Must be an exaggeration... Somebody passed the hat and got us an extra half hour. We appreciate your doing that, but please don't pass the hat unless you ask us first, there may be reasons that we can't play past quit time, and then what will you do with the hat? We got into a big pile of heat somewhere else when they passed the hat without asking us and we couldn't stay. We booked some more dates thru the year at the Clarksburg Moose, plus a couple at the Weston Moose. You can see all booked dates at each club on the maps page.
March 1, 2009 - I'm a slave to the photo gallery. Everybody is home from church and waiting for me to get the pictures up so they can see what silliness they got into last night. They are all eating sunday dinner, watching tee-vee, playing with the kids, and I am slaving away. Oh, the life of a photo-journalist... but I guess somebody has to do it.
What a bunch of over-the-top people this weekend at Pete's. If you weren't there, you missed a good one.
Friday was Vicki's birthday and the Clay County girls had a blast. Donna went to New Orleans last weekend and came home with a whole bag full of Mardi Gras beads. (don't ask how she got them) Midway thru the night we remembered we had them and dug some out. As soon as the girls saw them they started salivating and lost all their composure. Dear me...
Saturday, the first couple sets were real quiet out in the room until the crowd got their lubrication. We forgot the damned Mardi Gras beads at home Saturday night, and good thing, too. Who knows what might have happened. As it was, there was a train of bodies on the dance floor that reminded me of that old Dr. Hook song, Freaking at the Freaker's Ball. Find it and listen to the words. Pa-paw even got a lap dance.
Speaking of lubrication... it was Roger's birthday Saturday and the party got a little wild. Roger had a beer or two, then a couple singles, then someone bought him a triple. Which he chased with a crown and coke. I've never seen Roger so focused on his drumming. And staying on his seat. I could see the determination on his face... and his lips going "kick... snare... kick... snare..."
All in all, a fine time was had by all, I just don't want to think about the headaches some of you must have had when you woke up today!!!
February 22, 2009 - What is it with the 101? Every time we play there, the weather goes into the crapper. Back in January it got down to a very bitter zero degrees. This time it dumped four inches of snow on us. Oh, but it was so warm inside the 101 that the doors at both ends of the room were standing open. The roads were absolutely treacherous, hope you all slid home OK.
We tried our two new songs, 'Addicted' went very well but 'Something in Your Mouth' was a ball-buster... What is it with these modern songwriters that they can't leave a space to suck some air at the end of a line? 'Thanks' to everyone who came out to support us! And hey Barb, I wanted to get a photo of that sexy top, but you didn't come up and dance in front of us...
February 20, 2009 - mojo doctor has come to the conclusion that (once again) we have wandered out too far in one direction musically playing too much of one type of music. In the last version of the band we ended up playing nearly all country. In the present case we play a bit too much "hard screaming rock".
Despite the good results we've been getting with the hard stuff, we think to attract and keep the more 'genteel' crowd we're starting to get at the fraternities, parties and special events, we need to pick up some more middle-of-the-road adult-contemporary easy-rock and pop-country dance music.
We decided to work up a few older easy rock by bands like John Cougar, CCR and Steve Miller. Some tunes we had in mind are 'Authority Song', 'Up Round the Bend', 'Pretty Woman', 'You Really Got Me', 'Jungle Love', and maybe 'Take the Money and Run' and 'Bang a Gong'.
We also realize that we need to learn a few more (newer) country songs. We thought maybe some more Garth, plus some Dierks Bentley and Jason Aldean.
That said... didn't we just last night work up Nickelback's 'Something in Your Mouth' and Saving Abel's 'Addicted'... both screamers!!!
If you have any special requests for songs you'd like to hear, let us know. You can . But please be reasonable, no Spice Girls or Christina Aguilera!
February 15, 2009 - When we shut the generator down and left to go play at the Moose last night, all the power was still off clear down through Walkersville. When we drove home, we found all the houses and pole lights were back on. Everybody had electric the whole way from Walkersville right up to our neighbor's house. Ours was the first house that was still without power. Ha!
Anyway, a big mojo thank you goes out to Terry and the Weston Moose for having us play at their Valentine's Day party. I hope we played something that each of you enjoyed. We will be back June 26th. See you there!
Cool things department: Speaking of coming back... I put all upcoming dates for each venue on the maps page so you can see at a glance when we will be back to your favorite place.
I also added a weather page with maps from the National Weather Service so you can check to see what you are in for when you come out to see us.
February 14, 2009 - Happy Valentine's Day. The power is still not on down our hollow and in many other parts of West Virginia. We had a blast last night at our "Lights Out" party at Legends with three generators running to keep the band lit and the beer cold. 'HEY' to Michelle, hope you are feeling better and sorry you missed us. See you all again in May.
February 12, 2009 - Power or no power... mojo doctor will be performing at Legends of Pritt Mountain. If Allegheny Power does not have the electric lines back up by Friday night, we will be running on generators provided by Legends. So, don't sit at home in the dark, come out and party with us!
February 9, 2009 - I don't know what is wrong with bars that book us and then wait until the week of the gig to cancel us.
The Goal Rush in Worthington called and said they decided to have a bikini contest instead of a live band and would not be needing us. Now, this is the third time they've canceled us with only a couple days notice!!!
So we said "fine... and cancel our gig in April, too, while you are at it."
But, not to worry... Legends of Pritt Mountain has been wanting to book us in there sooner than May, so we called them up and sure enough... they had this Friday open.
So... if you want to look at bikinis, go to Worthington. If you want to party with the mojo, come to Legends of Pritt Mountain!
February 8, 2009 - Hmmm...

February 2, 2009 - Ya, Steelers... 27-23... hoo haw!!!
February 1, 2009 - Friday night at Pete's Place was a smallish but engaging crowd. We appreciated the persistent hooting and hollering you gave us between every song.
We were quite surprised by the much larger turnout on Saturday and the fact that we couldn't seem to get a peep out of some of you. You know... the old 'we sound just like the CD' syndrome. Yeah, total silence between songs. But seriously folks, I guess you were all just totally engaged in the hard work at hand... I mean, in your hands!
However, all-the-more, none-the-less... that was certainly not the case with the slightly fuzzy and out-of-focus Saturday night Clay County Crew whose enthusiasm (coupled with a tiny bit of "SoCo") managed to pull Pete (who woke up with the croup and didn't think he could sing) through the whole four-hour ordeal just fine. (I don't need no doctor... all I need is my Clay County Crew!!...)
And that is not intended to diminish the importance of our all-American Braxton County girls, without whom we could not live without!
A big "hello" goes out to Bill the bass player from Nicholas County, somewhere near Craigsville, who came up and talked to us. Thanks for the nice comments.
All in all it was a blast. So... let's have a hearty "Hoo Haw" and mighty "Hell, Yeah" for Pete's Place... still home of some of the prettiest women in West Virginia!
January 30, 2009 - Some of the guys in mojo doctor were asked to speak about mojo doctor's 'picture taking policy.'
Stumped as they were, they decided to go straight to the 'Head of mojo doctor Picture-Taking Department' and asked him to make a statement... and here it is...
| Dear Criminal Fringe and Concerned mojo doctor Fans... mojo doctor, like most live bands, takes pictures at their jobs to put up in their image gallery. It is presumed that, since you are in public, everybody can see what kind of trouble you are getting into anyway, even without the magic of the internet. However, if you are the really-sorta private type who doesn't want your picture taken and put up on the web for every world-wide-web-citizen to eternally gawk at, just let us know! If a picture of you does slip by and get posted, there is a link at the bottom of each picture page that you can click to get yourself quickly de-internetted. So... if you were caught on-line slow dancing with someone else's wife, or maybe you are on probation for cooking crack or meth, or maybe your soon-to-be ex would just love to have some solid hard-core evidence of your doggish ways in the form of an internet gallery showing your sorry ass letting off some steam and having a little bit of immensely deserved fun without her... well, mojo doctor will always remove gallery (or 'fuzz out' faces) as soon as we are notified. Let us know... and keep in touch!

January 25, 2009 - We made some big changes to the style of this website. Hope you all like the new look!
We also put together a MySpace page at myspace.com/mojo_doctor. Everybody has a MySpace page nowadays... so why not us. I personally hate MySpace, because it takes so long to load on a dial-up connection, plus most MySpace pages put everything in tall skinny columns... it's like writing a book on a toilet paper roll. But if anyone wants to do the 'MySpace' thang... go at it.
We had a fine time at the Clarksburg Moose on Friday. Lotsa nice people came out to party with us. Sorry no pictures, the camera got forgot at home. Oh, well.
Then Saturday was at the Summersville Moose where we met nice new people and some old friends, too. 'Hey' to Tim... good job handling the bake goods auction. Also 'hi' to Ed, who played bass guitar with John, Adam and Terry back before the band became mojo doctor. And hey, that was a killer chicken sandwich. Hope I don't die eating all this pound and a half of peanut butter chunks I won at the auction.
January 18, 2009 - We're in the middle of a three-Moose-marathon. Buckhannon, Clarksburg then Summersville. Had a great time at the 101 on Friday night. It was around zero out, but that didn't stop the Buckhannon crowd form going out. I liked that one, the bouncer picked the guy up under the arms, set him down outside on the sidewalk and shut the door, lotsa people, some fights. Done. Fighting's outta style. Fun's where the fare's at! Saturday brought tons of fun at the Buckhannon Moose. We booked three more dates there. It was not your normal Moose bunch, had some fun and joked around. Next weekend we'll Moose it up all over again. Thanks to all who came out to support us.
January 11, 2009 - Well, the Bear Skin people have not forgotten how to have a good time... and did you check out those taco salads... wow! We got a new toy that makes the PA sound BIG and TIGHT. It put some real thump and sizzle on the dance floor, so I guess it was a good investment. Special thanks to Larry, Trecia and the bartenders for keeping our whistles wet. haha! We made some new friends... Kim (a 'Bear Skin virgin') and the nice people at her table, Bill P. (watch those Palmetto bugs on your bike) and a young lady who might be getting up to do some Evanescence if we can work it out. Donny and Angie were stocking their new chest freezer and couldn't make it out. :( Terri also could not make it, but we left a recording of 'Crazy Bitch' on her answering machine, which she listened to this morning, with glee in her heart. Tona and Richard stopped by to say 'hi'. Also hi to Pat and Muggs. Don't miss us next weekend in Buckhannon at Downtown 101 on Friday or Buckhannon Moose on Saturday!
